Conviction of the Holy Spirit
The word convict means to bring to light or expose. As Christians we must let sin be away from us. We must follow the commandments whole heartedly. When we sin, we ask for forgiveness and sin the next minute after asking for forgiveness forgetting that our Father in Heaven is watching. We must refrain from sinning. The Bible says in Hebrews 10:15-17 but the Spirit also witnesses to us; for after He had said before, “This is the covenants that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,”Their sins and lawless deeds I will remember no more. This tells us that our sin and bad deeds will no longer be remembered by God .We must therefore repent from all our sins before it’s too late. It’s only the goodness of God that can help a person to repent wholeheartedly .Romans 4: says but to him who does not work but believes on him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness. We must focus on repenting from our sins willingly rather than focusing on trying to repent because someone says so.
What happens when a believer sins
The fact that you’re a believer does not mean you don’t sin or have never sinned. Whenever a believer sins, the Holy Spirit temporarily goes away from that person until the person repents. The Holy Spirit goes away because the person has now become unholy and the Holy Spirit cannot dwell with that person. It’s just like you wearing a white dress and then you end up soiling it. When this happens, you eventually remove the dress and get the stain of it. This is how the Holy Spirit works; if you do not repent the Holy Spirit cannot dwell in you unless you repent. The Bible says we should flee from sexual immorality because every other sin a man can commit is outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. We must understand that our body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit was given to us by God. We must therefore Glorify God with our bodies. Titus 2:11-12 teaches us that the Grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men and it has taught us to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts. We must therefore live righteously and godly. We must not be afraid of anything because the Bible says in 2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of sound mind. The Holy Spirit therefore convicts a believer of righteousness not of Sin. Jesus describes the world as a sinful place and that is why the work of the Holy Spirit is to convict the world of its sin. The Holy Spirit also convicts the world of righteousness.
THE STANDARD BEARER OF RIGHTEOUSNESS
Jesus points to Himself as the standard bearer of righteousness because he went to His Father and since there is only one person who came down from heaven, lived a life of perfection and who ascended back to heaven. The son of man only lives to be our intercessor (John 3:13),(1 timothy 2:5). The righteousness that the world denies is already demonstrated in Christ. Everything Jesus Christ ever did or said was the will of His Father (John 8:28), (Colossians 2:9). He is a righteous God and nobody can be as righteous as He is (Romans 3: 23). The world is facing judgment today and it is the Holy Spirit that will convict them of the truth. On the day of Judgment , Our Father will take His people with Him and the others will eventually be left behind. The Judgment of our Father has already begun because Jesus Christ identifies Satan as the one that judgment fell upon. Jesus Christ has already casted out the ruler of the world (Satan) . He even said that His death on the cross was when the prince of the world (Satan) will be driven out (john12:31) .It was on the cross that Jesus redeemed sinners for God and banished Satan. Three days later Jesus rose from the dead proving to the entire world that Satan’s kingdom has been overthrown. Anyone who rejects Jesus Christ and remain in sin will be condemned along with Satan and the Holy spirit has already sounded this in the hearts of sinners ( the unsaved).
