- Prevailing with God.
In the book of
we see the story of Esau and Jacob, how Esau sold his birthright to Jacob for a bowl of food and how Jacob took
Esau’s blessing from Isaac.
In the later part of the story, we see that Esau had prepared 400 men to go with him to Jacob, Jacob knew as soon
as word got to him that this was not any brotherly reunion, he knew he was dead meat so he did something rather
peculiar; he told his men to go ahead of him and that he would catch up with them, they obeyed and went on
their way.
Jacob understood that to get victory physically it must happen spiritually first and so he stayed back to
prevail with God. The bible shows us that he wrestled with an angel of God all night long and when it was
finally time for the angel to go Jacob held onto him and said, “No, I won’t let you go until you bless me”.
The angel then said to him, your name will no longer be called Jacob but Isreal, for you have prevailed with God. - The Spirit of PRAYER.
When we say a Spirit of prayer, were not talking about a certain spirit called prayer, the Spirit of prayer mean
when the Holy Spirit brings an overwhelming atmosphere and influence of prayer into your life.
How long or how often you are In this Spirit of prayer is dependant on you, the Holy Spirit doesn’t always choose
when to it happens and when it does’t, it only happens when you invite by desire.
The bible “Come all ye who thirst and I shall give you to drink”, when you thirst for God like this and you begin
in the fellowship of prayer it won’t take long for you to notice the spirit of prayer. - He Resists Pride.
Selfishness and greed afects our prayer life, selfish prayers are not hear, we must focus on the eternal salvation,
on things that really matter.
God resists the proud and exhaults the humble is what the bible says, we must understand that it is not by power
or might but by the Spirit of the living God, we are just vessels being used by the Holy Spirit of God to get the
work done and so for theis reason we must never exhault ourselves above others, why? Because all we are able
to do is because he uses us, he is the on that really deserves all the praise and glory so if He uses someone else
there is to be no jelousy or envy.
An example of a proud person from the bible is ADONIJAH son brother of Solomon
“But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’” (James 4:6
ESV)
There is such a thing as good pride in the Bible. However, most of the time that pride is mentioned in Scripture, it
is something we want to oppose. Often, people whose life is marked by this pride do not understand their need for
grace or humility.
The book of Proverbs is full of teaching on pride. “Haughty” means that you think you are superior or that you
have an exalted sense of yourself. People who have a haughty spirit are full of pride because they believe they are
better than those around them.
When God sees that himility in your life he lifts you, he never wants us to be proud.
You may be asking yourself, shouldn’t we be proud of God?, shouldn’t we be proud of what he has done for us?,
shouldn’t we be proud of his creations?
Yes, Yes and Yes, we should never exault ourself above someone else.
An example very often seen is this statements that people make atimes: “I made you who you are today, you
would be nothing without me!”.
GOD DOES NOT WANT US THINKING LIKE THAT!
- Sin.
You must get rid of every personal sin in your life in order to prevail in with God prayer.
You must repent of your personal sins, David said if “I regard Iniquity in my heart th Lord will not hear
me.”
The Holy Spirit enjoys fellowship with us shen we express Genuine Love.
All sin are based on two things:
Selfishness and fear.
There are sins you commit when dealing with man and there are sins you commit when dealing with man, an
example is pride people don’t see your pride toward them, they may never know about it, why? Because pride is a
spiritual sin, only God sees it. The bible says that God
resists the proud so he really can’t walk with you whith pride in your life and the only way you’re going to know
your pride is when the light of God shows you in your heart and defines that pride to
you. If this does’t happen, you
will continue living in that pride.
Spiritual sins are more dangerous that physical sins so you have to always search your heart by studying the word
of God. - Benefits Prevailing in prayer.
One of the the things that prevailing in prayer does is that is helps us to maintain our inspirition, if your not
praying, you loose the spiritual Glo that flows with it. It’s not in the words but in the power of the spirit wraped
up in it.
Romans 12: 11 tells us to be fervent in the Spirit, to maintain the glo, we do this by stayong in prayer and
meditating upon the word, meditate upon it until it gets into your spirit.
Just by listening to the word of God, the glory you carry will increase by the time you’re don
Another thing prevailing in prayer also does is that it helps you stay focus.
